The exchange rate is approximately 10.80 Dirhams per one euro. To simplify their lives, Moroccans say 1 euro = 10 Dirhams. You are on vacation, do as they do. It is impossible to find Dirhams outside Morocco but there are plenty of automatic bank tellers in all cities and large towns like Ouarzazate, Zagora, Kalla M’Gouna, etc. Euro bills are easy to exchange and may be advisible to bring a certain amount in cash in case you arrive on a weekend. Credit cards such as VISA and MASTERCARD are accepted at most large establishments and at Sawadi. Often merchants add a surcharge (3% to 6%) to help amortize the exorbitant fees they are charged by the Moroccan banks for each transaction. American Express and Diners cards are only very rarely accepted if at all. |

You will find at Sawadi that the service we provide is consistent with that of a four star hotel : kitchen worth a hotel management school, impeccable bathrooms and linens, restaurant, bar with alcohol service license, a good selection of Bordeaux wine, satellite TV with a large selection of channels, telephone, email, broad band internet service in some of the rooms, laundry service, porter service, enclosed parking, safe for guests valuables at the reception. Children are welcome ; Sawadi has been conceived with them in mind. For all small children we have available cradles with all their proper linnens, pillows and blankets. Pet animals are also welcome but owners should bring along the food for their four-legged friends at least for the initial days of their stay – later on there are stores at Ouarzazate that carry boxed pet food.

From Marrakech
Private vehicle : Leave Marrakech by the road to Fez ; after the palm grove (mostly palm trunks), there is a Metro store and about 400 metres beyond there is a new round about . The road to Ouarzazate is indicated on the right. It takes about four hours to reach Ouarzazate driving without any stops (200 km of road climbing to an altitude of 2,260m) but it may take longer since the views along the way are magnificent.
Bus : Take the CTM bus company ; their buses are comfortable and well maintained and usually not overcrowded. There is a CTM ticket office at the Marrakech bus terminal but their buses depart from a location in the Gueliz neighbourhood in the city centre close to the hotel Agdal. There are two daily departures ; one at 5 :00PM and the other at 12 :00 midnight !!! Count of four and one half hours of route at cost of about 8 euros. On the return trip from Ouarzazate to Marrakech, the departures are at 8 :30AM and 9 :00Pm but those times are rather uncertain and must be always verified.
Taxi : It is possible to travel by taxi (« grand taxi » as they are officially known) ; these are the Mercedes that one finds next to the Marrakech bus terminal. These taxis may be engaged individually or collectively with a group of other passengers - we would advise to pay for two or three persons as often the driver with pack six passengers in his vehicle). A full taxi costs about 700 to 900 Dirhams. |

We strongly suggest hiring a car during a stay in Morocco to be able to tour at one’s leisure. We at Sawadi can arrange for the car hire and have the vehicle delivered at your arrival at the Ouarzazate airport, at Sawadi itself or at any other town such as Marrakech. It is essential to make the reservations for hiring a car well in advance – among other reasons, there are no car-renting desk at the Ourzazate airport. It is not advisable to hire a car on a day-by-day or an as-needed basis as the availability of vehicles on site and the logistics planning by the rental agencies are not very reliable. Furthermore, it takes one hour each way to go from Sawadi to Ouarzazate and the renting agent may not be at the appointed time but may arrive « Inch Allah » some time later…
Hiring a car such as a LOGAN, without A/C (most common vehicle on the roads), costs about 400/450 Dirhams and the same vehicle with A/C costs about 650/800 Dirhams per day. Hiring a six-passenger 4x4 costs about 1300/1500 Dirhams per day plus cost of a driver. Those rates include unlimited mileage and insurance but do not include fuel. The rental agency will require a guarantee in the form of a credit card imprint (VISA/MASTERCARD).
When hiring a car through us, we can arrange for the car to be delivered at Marrakech to be returned there as well or to be delivered at Ouarzazate with return at the same place or finally can arrange to have the pick up at one location and the return at another. In this latter case, there normally is a fee for returning the vehicle to its original location of about 400 Dirhams. |

Liberalization of air transport in Morocco
Since the « liberalization of the Moroccan Skies » policy launched by local authorities in the summer of 2004, several new airlines have been established or authorised to serve different parts of the country.
Direct flights serving Ouarzazate
Ourzazate is the ideal airport to arrive at Sawadi. Royal Air Morocco (RAM) has several regularly scheduled flights and Transavia, the new « low cost » subsidiary of Air France-KLM flies also into Ourzazate directly from Paris-Orly.
Flights to Ouarzazate from Casablanca
Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has the greatest choice of flights serving most major European capitals and many large French cities (Lyon, Bordeaux, Montpellier, Nice, Strasbourg, and Toulouse) with direct flights to Casa Blanca. There are several daily direct flights Paris-Orly to Casa Blanca ( best flight leaves around 7 :00 PM has the shortest wait time for the Oourzazate connection at around 10 :30 PM). A Sawadi staff member will meet guests arriving at Ourzazate around midnight provided the guests have requested a transfer from the airport or have rented a car through Sawadi – please refer to comments and questions under « How to reach Sawadi » below.
Flights to Marrakech or Agadir
There are more and better flights to chose from when flying either to Marrakech or Agadir from European cities than those going directly from Paris to Ourzazate. It is possible to reach Ouarzazate and eventually Sawadi by car (four hours from Marrakech and six hours from Agadir) but there are several airlines serving those routes that have regular daily connections and some even several times per day. Contrary to the RAM direct flight Paris – Ourzazate, it is important to search the Internet for the best fares amongst the several competing airlines |

There are many people who having never been in Morocco, still would advise against a trip in the summer months. Worse yet, there are many Moroccans from the North of the country and particularly those living in France who say so even though they have never set foot on the other side of the Atlas range. The simple truth is that Sawadi is situated in a lush palm grove located on a plane at 1270me of altitude where there is always a refreshing breeze. Certainly, in August it is not advisable to go out jogging in the middle of the afternoon but rather read lounging on a deck chair under the shade of a tree and take a refreshing swim from time to time. And at night, one has only to lift one’s eyes to find the clearest and most beautifully starry sky anywhere. |

Nothing to be surprised about since Sawadi is very new and the process for guides to be updated is very slow – guides change their covers yearly but the content in the inside is often hardly touched.

The legal time zone in Morocco is GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) and it does not change during the year. It follows that when it is noon in Morocco, in France it is 2 :00 P.M. during the summer daylight savings time and 1 :00 P.M. in winter during standard time. |

The chef prepares daily delicious dishes to make our guests discover the wonder of the local cuisine just as those guests will discover the wonders of our region. From the morning after your arrival, you will be able to choose among the chef’s suggestions and even work alongside him to help him prepare them. We make a lighter Moroccan cuisine with some small touches of French cooking (for instance the Bordeaux specialty « caneles » ).Generally we do not serve chips (they are found everywhere) but occasionally we may make a concession in particular when children request it. The main ingredients for our kitchen come from our farm.
Please let us know before arriving in case you wish to request a special diet (health diet, vegetarian, vegan, children’s menu, etc.). |

Your stay at Sawadi can be one of total idleness, laying on a deck chair in the shade of the palm trees with a cooling drink in your hand. It can also be one that includes excursions and visits to the region’s splendid nature on foot, by car, by 4x4 off the road, motorcycle, bicycle, camel back, mule, etc. All these means of transport may be combined as well. We can also organize camping trips to the mountains or the desert.
Beginning in mid June and all the way to mid September it is necessary to wear a hat and maximum sun protection cream ; notwithstanding that the temperature often reaches 40°C at mid day, it is very bearable because it is a dry heat much easier to stand than humid heat. In additions, at Sawadi there is a pleasant coolness in the shade under the palm and olive trees. The Moroccan construction of the buildings with their mud and straw walls keep the inside rooms comfortably cool. Do not hesitate to send us your questions and your wishes so that we may make all necessary arrangements before your arrival. |

There are beautiful riding horses for hire at the Skoura palm grove. Because of restrictions set in the Koran, these horses have not been castrated. The personnel at the riding centre do not verify riding skills and therefore this type of horse riding excursion is suggested for experienced riders in order to best enjoy them. The riding rates are 130 dhs for one hour, 250 dhs for two hours, 300 dhs for the entire afternoon and 500 dhs for a full day including a picnic basket provided by Sawadi.
Supervision: monitors offer a graduate teaching age-appropriate and motivated riders. Cavalry: 25 Arab beards. All horses were selected and trained to meet the expectations of all riders, from beginners to advanced. Facilities: The center has a career of 19 x 38 m
